Laptop Power Jack Repair

We repair broken laptop power jacks (also called power port, charger port, DC jack, power connector, DC-in port) that cause laptops to not charge.

The jack is simply where the charger tip plugs into the laptop. If you have to wiggle the charger cable to power on your laptop, you probably need a power jack repair or replacement. You should be able to plug your charger cable in and receive power immediately.

Most times it is very noticeable. You should be able to plug your charger in and receive power immediately. Some common signs are:

  • physical damaged (can melt plastics around housing & charger tips)
  • laptop no longer charges
  • needing to wiggle cable to power laptop on
  • intermittent power
  • charger tip no longer fits

In the event that your jack is damaged, we strongly recommend leaving computer unplugged. This will prevent further damage to the computer due to shorts or other bad connections.

A laptop name is usually made up of three parts:

  1. a make (eg. Dell, HP),
  2. model (eg. Inspiron, Pavillion)
  3. model extension (1520, DV5-1250US)

Therefore, a full name would be “Dell Inspiron 1520 ” or “ HP Pavillion DV5-1250US .”

You should have no problem identifying your laptop make. However, laptop models can usually be found:

  • on the sticker on the bottom or your laptop
  • beside your touch-pad (on the palm-rest)
  • in the battery compartment
  • above your keyboard
